Pennfield Ridge, NB
A monumental RCAF Roundel
This memorial honours the 70 servicemen, who died while training at RCAF Station Pennfield Ridge during the Second World War. The ceremony held in June 2024, honoured the people who were killed during training exercises while stationed at the base. The event was attended by a large crowd and included several dignitaries, including Governor General Mary Simon, who spoke at the event.
An RCAF “Roundel” has been partially recreated by trees that surround the existing Pennfield Ridge monument. Details include a centre disc of red granite, an inner ring of crushed white stone, and an outer ring of 100 trees in three rows. The crushed stone inner ring will provide ample space for crowds to gather around the monument for ceremonies and celebrations
Harold Wright helped develop the memorial and spoke with CBC at the event.
